It’s not goodbye, its good riddance

I’m crap at goodbyes.

But as I’m off soon, and folk at work had been asking when, I thought I’d better let em know.

Thankfully, the people I respect at my soon to be old job will take this as intended:

After 3,499 days, 950 press releases*, and 1,474* press queries, I’m leaving the council.

Next week shall be my last in the Civic Centre as I’ll be finishing off a project at home, before using up my leave and starting a new role (I’m relocating to buy a house my public sector wages can afford that’s big enough for my both my family and some items of furniture).

It’s been great working with some of you. Ok working with others, and just about bearable for the rest, but I thought I’d better say cheerio to you all anyway.

I know I’ve missed some people off this email, but apart from the deliberate omissions, the rest are due to the ravages of nearly a decade here having addled my brain. Please send onto anyone else you think might be glad to see the back of me.

I’ve had some fun, trying, unusual and terrifying times here, and I’ve stuck it out so long largely thanks to the convenient commute, and my fear of change. The fact I actually quite like working with a handful of you also contributed a little, so please accept my thanks for making stressful times easier, and helping me get through the days.

People might be surprised to learn that there are a number of incredibly talented people working here, and I’m grateful to them all for giving me the chance to work alongside them, learn from them, and steal the glory from their efforts by getting their stories in the press and taking the credit.

If you want to pop over at some point next week (I’m not in Fridays as family already in Kent so I’m off there tonight, back on Sunday aft) for uncomfortable small talk whilst making sure I’m actually going, please feel free.

There may be cake etc on Thursday, if I remember to buy ingredients. If not, I’m sure I’ll be able to find some traditional northern delicacies such as sausage rolls and scotch eggs.

So…that’s it really….

Now, get back to work.

All the best,

Phil

* That I remembered to put on the system/was able to put on system when IT wasn’t down.
